Change of Heart – Justice for
the Injured Worker
Though he claims never to have heard the term workers’ compensation in law school, it seemed to be a natural path for one with Wisniewski’s background, values and strong desire to help.
In fact, he was first introduced to work- ers’ compensation while law clerking for the chief judge of the Arizona Court of Ap- peals, Division One. At that time, a special department handled workers’ compensa- tion appeals.
“I was fortunate to learn workers’ com- pensation law from several judges who defined workers’ compensation law,” Wis- niewski says. “Thereafter, in my first jobs as a practicing attorney, I represented insur- ance companies in casualty and workers’ compensation matters.”
Interestingly enough as his career ad- vanced Wisniewski found himself work- ing both sides of the aisle – representing insurance companies and injured workers. However, he found it increasingly difficult to straddle these opposing areas and recog- nized he had to make a choice.
“It became very hard to continue to rep- resent insurance companies,” he says. “I decided I want to represent real people.” These diverse experiences have given him the advantage of insight into the thinking of the opposition. Since his days as a newly minted lawyer in 1976, Wisniewski’s career has been split between working in small, medium firms, a national firm and finally his own practice. Through it all, he has al- ways been involved in workers’ compensa- tion. As he converted his practice exclu- sively to injured workers’ representation, he made the decision to go into business by himself. By operating independently, he was able to produce positive results for his clients.
“I did not want to be responsible for oth- ers not doing their job,” he says. “When people come to me I can guarantee they will get my personal service and represen- tation. One thing that has changed dramat- ically since my last appearance in this mag- azine is that our practice is more diverse representing Hispanic clients and other minorities. I am assisted by my knowledge- able and capable bilingual staff; they have almost 100 years of experience and ensure the best client service. Most of all my staff has been with me for decades. We work hard for our clients.”
Wisniewski has never looked back. He has truly found his niche in a practice that works best for him and the injured workers of Arizona.
