Brandon Schwartz

A Legacy of Zealous and Ethical Advocacy

By Haley Freeman

“Having the support of my wife and family is essential to my success, especially as a litigator.”

Brandon Schwartz is a young trial attorney who has already distinguished himself as a business litigator and industry leader in three jurisdictions. Schwartz was recently honored with membership in both the Million Dollar Advocates Forum and Multi-Million Dollar Advocates Forum. Named a Super Lawyers Minnesota Rising Star on multiple occasions and rated a Top Litigation Attorney by Avvo, Schwartz is a next generation lawyer to watch.

Both athletically and academically gifted, Schwartz attended college on a full Division I hockey scholarship and went on to play professional hockey in the American Hockey League and East Coast Hockey League. He graduated in the top 10 students in his class at William Mitchell College of Law and gained invaluable legal experience clerking for his father, Michael Schwartz.

“I am blessed with two great sets of parents who are business owners and put an emphasis on my education. Michael entrusted me with significant responsibility early on. Some things you can only learn from experience, and the opportunities I’ve had here to handle big cases early in my career just would not have been available to me if I had gone to work with a big law firm. After I was sworn in in Wisconsin, I took a deposition the very next day; a task I was well prepared for thanks to the guidance of a phenomenal mentor in Michael.”

The Schwartz Law firm is a family business built on relationships established during more than three decades of upright and reliable representation. “Our practice is largely referral based. We have clients across Wisconsin, Minnesota and Iowa for whom there is great advantage in having attorneys with experience in the different trial courts and in a valuable array of practice areas. Many of our clients do business in two or more states, or live in one state and work in another. By using us, they don’t have to hire multiple counsel.”

Schwartz observes that clients in today’s legal environment expect greater accountability from their attorneys than they once did. “Clients who retain us work with Michael and me, and they respond well to being able to work with the same attorney throughout their case and not be handed off to someone they have never met. I think people are generally looking for more service and communication from their lawyers than they used to. We are continually searching for ways to handle cases as cost-effectively as possible through technology, better research and better case management. Even as a small firm, we have some of the best technology available to provide that level of service.”

Schwartz brings many client relationships to the firm from his athletic connections in hockey and CrossFit, and he enjoys having an authentic rapport with people of shared interests. “People want somebody they like and trust – somebody they can relate to outside of the law office. They are more likely to open up to me and provide the necessary information we need to provide the high level of representation the client expects. The more I know about the client, the better the game plan I can prepare for them.”

Schwartz has been published by the Minnesota Bar Association, Michigan Bar Journal and American Bar Association, and he is active in multiple leadership roles with the ABA young lawyers division. “I value the opportunity to work with other young attorneys. I am able to draw on their practice experience and gain insight into how things work in other firms to improve my own practice.”

Schwartz describes his wife and parents as “the greatest influences on my life and career. Having the support of my wife and family is essential to my success, especially as a litigator.”

“Michael and I offer the balance of his 30-plus years of experience and my drive as a young attorney. Together, we are committed to achieving the best outcomes for clients through zealous and ethical advocacy.”
