Weil’s Sixth Annual “Dodge for a Cause” Dodgeball Tournament Raises Over $85,000 for Vogel Alcove

The sixth annual “Dodge for a Cause” dodgeball tournament organized by international law firm Weil, Gotshal & Manges LLP, held this year on Thursday, June 28, 2018, raised over $85,000 to benefit Vogel Alcove. This year’s successful fundraising effort brings the cumulative total raised to nearly $350,000 since the event’s creation.

The beneficiary, Vogel Alcove, is a Dallas-based nonprofit dedicated to providing free therapeutic services to the more than 3,000 homeless children in Dallas. The Firm has been a long-time Vogel Alcove supporter, including several Weil partners who have served as co-chairs of the organization’s annual Arts Performance Event and/or on its board of directors.

The round-robin dodgeball competition featuring more than 25 of the city’s most prominent companies was held on the floor of the American Airlines Center with the team from Sewell Automotive emerging as the champion.

Weil attorneys and staff organized the annual “Dodge for a Cause” event, which originated as part of a Firm-wide “Pay It Forward” program supporting local community organizations that are typically underfunded. The corporate sponsors in this year’s dodgeball tournament contributed amounts ranging from $1,500 to $10,000.

“Each year, we have received an outpouring of support from the participants of Dodge for a Cause, making it a fun-filled and rewarding event,” said Courtney Marcus, co-managing partner of Weil’s Dallas office. “We are proud to support Vogel Alcove and provide a platform for local corporations to give back to such a deserving cause while enjoying some friendly competition.”

“On behalf of the Firm, I would like to thank our tournament co-chairs, who have each had a longstanding commitment to the event: Linda Domyanic, David Gail, Jonathan Macke, Amanda Pennington Prugh and Nathan White. Their exceptional efforts planning this year’s event and recruiting corporate sponsors is inspiring and a testament to their dedication to Vogel Alcove’s impactful work,” said Marcus.
