Polsinelli Shareholder John T. Woodruff Elected Fellow of Texas Bar Foundation

Houston-based Polsinelli shareholder John T. Woodruff has been elected to membership in the Fellows of the Texas Bar Foundation in recognition of his outstanding professional achievements and demonstrated commitment to the improvement of the justice system. Each year, only one-third of one percent of Texas attorneys are invited to become Fellows.

“John is truly deserving of this prestigious distinction recognizing his significant contributions to the Texas legal community and the legal profession as a whole,” said Greg Novak, managing partner of Polsinelli’s Houston office. “His superior work ethic and tireless commitment to upholding the fairness and integrity of the legal system has earned him an outstanding reputation in Houston and statewide.”

Composed of top attorneys representing various ages, backgrounds and practice areas, the Fellows share a commitment to professional integrity and promoting the cause of justice in Texas. Founded in 1965, the Texas Bar Foundation is the largest charitably funded bar foundation in the country and is dedicated to using the financial contributions of its membership to build a strong justice system for all Texans. To date, the Foundation has distributed more than $18 million throughout Texas to assist nonprofit organizations with a wide range of justice-related programs and services.

As a shareholder in Polsinelli’s tax practice, Woodruff counsels a broad range of companies on all aspects of international tax, transfer pricing and tax issues related to cross-border mergers, acquisitions and restructurings. He regularly advises clients on issues related to the U.S. foreign tax credit, U.S. trade or business/permanent establishment determinations, treaty-based positions, transfer pricing strategies and strategic tax-related planning for international investments and financings.

A prominent leader in the Houston legal community, Woodruff currently serves as the chair of the Tax Section of the Houston Bar Association and has served on a variety of committees including the Tax Sections of the American Bar Association and the International Bar Association. In addition to being a co-founder of the Houston Global Tax Symposium, Woodruff is also involved with the Houston International Tax Forum, Houston Tax Roundtable and World Affairs Council of Greater Houston, and regularly assists the Houston Chapter of Tax Executives Institute to provide quality tax programs to tax executives in the Houston area.

Woodruff earned his Master of Laws from Georgetown University and his J.D. from the University of Tulsa College of Law. He previously completed his bachelor’s degree at Oklahoma State University.
